Who It Suits—and Who It Doesn’t

We generally see the best results in patients with early to moderate hair thinning, where the follicles remain present but have become weaker or are producing finer hairs. This includes many patients with male and female pattern hair loss, as well as those experiencing age-related, hormonal or stress-related reductions in hair density.

One point we always discuss during consultation is that polynucleotides cannot regenerate hair from follicles that are no longer active. There needs to be viable hair follicles present for treatment to be effective.

If we feel another treatment is likely to produce a better outcome, we will explain this honestly and discuss the options available to you. Our priority is always to recommend the treatment that is most appropriate for your individual diagnosis rather than simply proceeding with injections.

Polynucleotides or PRP? A Question We Are Often Asked

Both treatments are regenerative and are delivered using a series of small injections into the scalp, so it is understandable that patients often ask how they differ.

PRP uses concentrated growth factors prepared from your own blood to support existing hair follicles.

Polynucleotides work differently. They help improve the health of the scalp tissue itself by supporting tissue repair, reducing inflammation and creating a healthier environment around the follicle.

Neither treatment is universally better than the other. They work through different biological mechanisms and may complement each other. For many patients, combining both treatments as part of a personalised management plan can provide the greatest benefit.

The most appropriate treatment depends on the underlying cause of your hair loss, which is why careful assessment is so important before making any treatment decisions.

What a Polynucleotides Hair Treatment Involves

The treatment itself is straightforward and usually takes around 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the area being treated.

Following an assessment of your scalp and the areas of hair thinning, Polynucleotides are carefully injected into the scalp using a series of very fine needles.

The treatment is generally well tolerated, although you may experience some mild discomfort during the injections.

Afterwards, it is common to notice slight redness, tenderness or small areas of swelling at the injection sites. These effects are usually mild and settle within 24 to 48 hours.

There is minimal downtime, and most patients are able to return to work and their normal daily activities immediately after treatment. We will provide you with personalised aftercare advice to help support the healing process.

Your Treatment Plan

A typical treatment course consists of:

  • Three initial sessions, performed approximately 14 days apart.
  • Early improvements are often noticed from around 4 to 6 weeks, although hair growth remains a gradual process.
  • Maintenance treatments are usually recommended every few months, depending on your individual response and long-term treatment goals.

As with all regenerative treatments, results develop gradually as the hair growth cycle progresses. Improvements in hair quality, density and scalp health continue over the months following treatment.

Individual results vary and depend on factors such as the cause of hair loss, the stage at which treatment is started and your individual biological response.

Why Have Polynucleotides at The Hair Office?

Polynucleotide treatment is only one part of successful hair restoration. Equally important is understanding the underlying cause of your hair loss and ensuring the treatment is appropriate for you.

At The Hair Office, your consultation and treatment plan are led by Dr Anju Mehta, who holds the JCCP-approved Level 7 Diploma in Injectables, the highest recognised postgraduate qualification in injectable aesthetics in the UK, alongside more than twenty years of medical experience as an Anaesthetist.

Working alongside Dr Mehta is Kelly Morrell, a hair restoration specialist with over thirteen years dedicated exclusively to non-surgical hair restoration. Her expertise includes trichoscopy, scalp assessment and advanced hair restoration therapies.

Together, we combine medical expertise with specialist hair restoration knowledge to understand why your hair is thinning before recommending treatment.

If polynucleotides are not the most appropriate option, we will tell you. If another treatment—or a combination of treatments—is more likely to help you achieve your goals, we will discuss this openly and develop a personalised management plan tailored to your individual needs.

Our aim is to provide honest, evidence-informed recommendations that focus on long-term hair health rather than short-term solutions.

Before We Recommend Treatment

Every patient begins with a comprehensive consultation.

This includes a detailed discussion of your concerns, medical history, medications, lifestyle factors and previous hair treatments, together with an examination of your scalp and hair using trichoscopy where appropriate.

Where clinically indicated, we may recommend further investigations, such as blood tests or other assessments, to identify any underlying medical or nutritional factors contributing to your hair loss.

Only once we have established the likely cause of your hair thinning will we recommend a personalised treatment plan.

Whether that includes polynucleotides, PRP, other regenerative treatments or a combination approach, our recommendations are always based on your individual diagnosis and treatment goals.

Fantastic I had a consultation at the hair office with Dr Mehta and Kelly Morrell. The atmosphere was really relaxed they put my mind at rest about the treatment which was only mildly uncomfortable and relatively pain free . The treatment administered by Kelly took approximately twenty minutes. The results exceeded my expectations, within 6 weeks I could see changes in my hair which has continued to improve after my second treatment . I wholeheartedly recommend them.

My Hair Loss & SMP Sessions with Kelly Morrell I started having hair loss in my early/mid twenties, I’m now 35, through all of these years I lived with a bald look. I was recommended practioner Kelly, we discussed during the consultation in the clinic, she carefully reviewed and finally I decided to proceed with the SMP treatment with her. in short, Kelly is genuinely, absolutely amazing and I can’t endorse her enough as she had put me in a situation of ease throughout the 3/4 sessions. She was transparent and made my whole journey very comfortable; she would often listen to my concerns and made reasonable adjustments as requested. Professional, very down to earth, she’s got tremendous experience in her field of work. I would happily return in the future to continue further smp sessions with Kelly. She has transformed my life in a better way, I’ve been told I look much more youthful and natural since before and following the treatment sessions. Thank you so much.

I visited Dr Mehta and Kelly at their clinic in Battersea a month ago. They were both incredibly welcoming and provided an excellent service. I went to see them for a PRP injection for my hair. I had early receeding of my hair line and I wanted to stop the progression before it got any worse. Dr Mehta explained the treatment options very clearly and I decided to go with a PRP treatment protocol. Having not had a treatment before i was a bit anxious but i was put at ease straight away at how profesional Dr Mehta was. The injection was a lot less painful than I expected. I was seen and treated all in 30 to 45 minutes. I can already see new hair growth and looking forward to following up with another treatment.
